Smudging is a centuries old tradition, dating back to antiquity. From the moment humankind first discovered fire, people have burned herbs, roots, and wood for purification purposes. Smudging is the process of clearing out stagnant or negative energies to make room for positive love and light.

In holistic tradition, smudging and abalone shells go hand in hand. Presently, people smudge for a variety of reasons, including:

  • To lift anxiety or depression
  • For purification of negative or evil energy
  • To stimulate creativity and inspiration
  • For cleansing a new home or workspace
  • To reconnect with nature
  • And to create harmony between the physical and metaphysical realms

Abalone Shell -

Smudging with abalone shells means you’re incorporating all four earth elements into your practice:

  1. Water – From the abalone shell
  2. Earth – Brought in with the herbs and smudge sticks
  3. Smoke – Represents the air and connects you to divinity
  4. Fire – You ignite the smudge stick with fire

Each element is crucial to harmonize and balance your smudging ritual. When you hold one of these miraculous natural treasures, you tap into an oceanic frequency filled with calm, soothing vibrations.

What does the abalone shell symbolize? Anything from the sea is naturally going to evoke an aura of tranquility. Abalone shells symbolize patience, love, compassion, and calm. Herbs and roots serve as an air element.

Selenite -

Selenite is a soft, cloudy, white stone that is part of the Gypsum family and it can be found in many countries around the world. Just in case you don’t already love selenite here’s another reason to: it’s named after the Greek Goddess of the moon, Selene. This stone is best known for its cleansing powers. Think energetic cleansing, not laundry and dusting. I’m talking personal aura cleansing, house cleansing, dark-energy-be-gone cleansing. Selenite is also great for connecting with your third eye and crown chakra to boost your psychic connection. There is no need to cleanse Selenite, Selenite cleanses all.

 Goose Feather-

Smudging with feathers is a Native American practice to cleanse negative energy and to create a connection with the spiritual realm.

Feathers are associated with the element of air.

The different colors of feathers can help you to work spiritually with the energy you want to channel and the gifts you want to manifest.

Sage -

White Sage is the most common and widely used sage for smudging. It is also known as Bee Sage, Sacred Sage, or California Sage. It is native to Southern California and is known for its strong, pungent scent. White sage smudge has a long history of use in Native American culture and is believed to have powerful cleansing properties. It is commonly used to clear negative energy, purify a space, and promote healing. It is the most common form of sage used to make sage smudge sticks.
